Challenges for the Individuals in Society - Students identify challenges faced by individuals in society through literature. By meeting in their literature circles, students will study characters and the social issues they face.

The grading policy for Language and Literature is as follows:
Language and Literature (Reading and Writing)
60% Assessments: includes tests, projects, drafts of writing, final drafts of writing, and most quizzes
40% Assignments: includes classwork, notebook checks, some exit slips for the day, participation and weekly homework

Mapping for Change - Students are solidifying their understanding of community by using maps to analyze equity and disparity in their own communities.

Students will identify an issue to analyze in their community, creating a map that visualizes this issue and composing a letter to a local leader voicing their findings and proposed solutions to their community issue.
