Behavior Management Plan for Middle School
In middle school, all teachers utilize restorative practices. We work hard to build community in our classrooms and all students are expected to be respectful of others at all times. If a student is struggling to meet expectations or creating a disruption to the learning environment, teachers will engage in restorative conversations with students about their choices in an attempt to redirect his/her behavior. Multiple strategies may be used, including one-on-one conversations to build relationships, encouraging students to take breaks, and restorative lunches to discuss and reflect upon past incidents. Restorative practices may include the following:
Warning: Students are given 1 verbal warning before interventions are warranted.
Level 1 Violations: Student's family will receive a phone call or e-mail. Two level 1 violations in one week = restorative lunch
Level 2 Violations: Phone call or e-mail home, and conference may be requested. One level 2 violation= restorative lunch! A student may receive this intervention if behavior does not improve OR for having their cell phone after morning bell and before dismissal, foul language, or other serious behaviors.
Level 3 Violations and higher: Referral to administration for support will be requested.
Check the CPS Student Code of Conduct to learn more about district-wide rules and policies.
